Living a predominantly raw lifestyle has so many benefits…
The one I cherish almost more than any is the simplicity of it…. We do choose to be living raw and simply. We grow as much of our food as we can and it is one of my greatest joys…from the moment I put that seed (lovingly saved from last year’s crop) into the soil, rich with compost made from piggy poo collected from the paddocks and veggie scraps from our kitchen and the café. to the weekly routine of watering with worm tea made by my husband Gary from his worm farm and then onto the weeding, waiting and watching. Until finally, that wonderful day when we can harvest and prepare a meal with tomatoes less than 30 minutes old, seasoned with this year’s garlic and basil spread over a freshly harvested zucchini made into spiralised noodles. The flavors are like nothing you will find in the super market, in fact Gary’s tomato crop this year was exceptionally delicious….we were eating them like apples….
The physical work involved in growing your own food is in itself satisfying…can you beat the feeling of fatigued muscles at the end of a rewarding day outside..
It is a lifestyle choice and one I am grateful for each and every day… along with our dietary choices, we choose to keep other areas of our lives simple. We recycle as much as we can and are working towards the goal of not bringing anything onto the property that we can’t keep on the property. That keeps our diet very fresh as this includes no tins, plastic and limited amounts of glass….it is also incredibly cost efficient and that allows more choices if your not having to work every hour God gave you to accumulate “stuff”…..
We are creating a sanctuary on our property for abused farm animals. We currently have approx 25 at last count and by growing food we are able to feed more animals and that is a bonus in my books!!
It never ceases to amaze me how doing the right thing by our bodies is doing the right thing by the planet, the animals and our spirits… it is so linked together and so living raw and simply is fine by me….
